What would your life look like if you treated yourself how you treat a friend? Your child? Your partner?
Probably a lot easier and lighter, right?
Let’s get into some of my TOP self-care tips - because you can’t pour from an empty cup.
I can't stress this enough. Drink ya water. It’s the most basic step to allowing your body to do what your body does.
A simple tip to how I’ve increased my water intake:
Always have a full glass or bottle of water nearby. Make sure you get up regularly to refill said water container. Some of my clients even find it helpful to set an alarm on their phone as a reminder to drink or to get up for a refill.
Sounds easy, right? But how many times have you caught yourself driving in traffic, walking the aisles of the grocery store, or even working on a client - and you notice you’re not breathing deeply? Maybe you don’t even know that you do this, but after reading this you will.
The easiest way I’ve found to drop back into my breath is this:
Once I catch myself not breathing deeply, I do just that - take ONE really BIG inhale and a quick FULL exhale. From there, restart the breath - inhale to a count of 4 and exhale to a count of 4.
You’ll notice your heart rate drop a little, your head clear, and your surroundings and activity come back into focus.
Find Stillness -
This could look like meditation, prayer, or just sitting outside in the sun for a bit. Finding stillness in the body allows the mind to do the same thing. And - let’s not forget - the mind-body connection is a REAL thing.
I’ve found it helpful to incorporate this quickly by:
Carving out 10 minutes in my day - sometimes multiple times a day. I sit somewhere in my room, start my phone timer for 10 minutes, close my eyes and breathe (please see #2).
Whatever you choose to do, be easy with yourself. Try small steps as opposed to great big steps. You want to see yourself succeed! Give these a try and be sure to let me know how you feel!
