Exposing the Top 5 Lies & Myths About Blogging
We desperately need to talk about blogging. But I know there are lots of questions/doubts/thoughts you have about the topic. So I want to spend time addressing these 5 lies about blogging head-on ⏬
1️⃣ Blogging isn’t dead
This has got to be the most miraculous marketing strategy EVER with the amount of times it’s risen from the dead. 🙄 I’ve seen more people stepping entirely away from social media in 2025 & turning their effort, time, energy, AND money toward blogging with SEO. Why? Because we’ve seen the ROI of social media—and we’ve seen the ROI of blogging & SEO. And getting a paying client from a post you published SEVEN years ago (true story) feels a helluva lot better than getting 10 likes & 0 bookings from your latest Reel.
My 2026 prediction is that this just keeps going up & up & up 📈 and if you want to ride that wave…
^^It’s currently $27
2️⃣ You don’t have to write 3,000-word posts each week
I have yet to find a truly accurate source for exactly how many words a blog post “needs” to be. But you know what remains true? That it needs to be as long as it needs to be. Google specifically has created (and even made modifications to) their Helpful Content Update specifically for this reason. It wants to connect searchers (blog readers) with the most helpful piece of content that it can so that they’re satisfied & feel like they got the answer they were looking for. The more that scenario plays out, the more people will keep coming back to Google. You keep Google happy, Google will reward you—with visibility, which leads to traffic, which leads to conversions. 😉
Time and time again, my clients & I have found that 500-word blog posts are totally good enough to help you get found & increase traffic. (I also find that people tend to write more than 500 words because that is actually so doable. Then they go on for as long as they need to to make their point, share information, & actually help the reader.)
Could you write a blog that’s 2- or 3,000-words long? Absolutely! And there may be times you find you need/want to do that. (My case study blog posts are typically 1,700-words long.) But it is also enough to write a 500-word long post.
3️⃣ Using AI to craft your blogs won’t make it ineffective—as long as you do this…
My rule is that you’ve got to have at least 1 person read through & “humanize” the post. What we’ve seen more & more of in 2025 (which will become even more important in 2026) is people sharing stories. AI can do lots, but it cannot replace your lived experience, your methodology, your client wins, or your wins! Only you can share all of that. And you should be sharing that! People want & need to know these things in order to trust you & then to jump at the chance to work with you.
You also need to know that you definitely cannot rely on AI to tell you best SEO practices. You need to learn those away from AI & bring that knowledge into the software so you truly get an SEO strategy that will work to attract ideal clients. (I’ll have to share more about this in the future!)
4️⃣ Sponsorships aren’t the only way to monetize your blog
I see this with blogs and podcasts… people are under the illusion that the only way to make money with either is to have sponsorships. But that’s flat out not true—and I’ve got receipts!
💰 I booked a DFY client for a $2500 project in under 36 hours because she heard part of a podcast episode, went to the blog, filled out my inquiry form, asked me 1 question, & booked the service right there on the spot!
💰 One of my SEO Foundations students booked a photography client from a blog that was SEVEN YEARS OLD—and certainly not optimized for SEO!
💰 A DFY podcast SEO client is filling her super niche membership directly from her podcast (including podcast blog posts 😜) now that she has an SEO strategy—and her team knows this because there’s a specific code they’re using at checkout!
When you’re thinking strategically about your marketing strategy (your blogs, your podcast, etc.), one BIG thing you focus on is where you’re sending them next. It’s the difference between zero information or links to click on for more & “this blog topic is perfect because I can direct people to that workshop I’ve got coming up!” You more easily spot—and create—the opportunities to share what you’re doing & invite people in. THAT is how you monetize without sponsorships!
5️⃣ Sometimes your easiest blog post topics are staring you in the face
This is one of my favorite things to share with entrepreneurs! Make sure you’re seated, because this is gonna be mindblowing & feel so super obvious 🤯
💡 Questions people ask you:
The BEST blog topics are going to be those based on questions real people are asking you—and asking you often. I bet if you just sat here for the next 10 minutes writing out questions, you’d have enough blog topics for the next year 👀
💡 Recent media or podcast features:
OMG! Do as I say here, not as I do because—I’ve fallen short here m’self. But! The best way to make the most of any media or podcast feature is to keep the conversation going with your own blog post about it. There’s a number of things you can do, but the no. 1 thing NOT to do—is to repost the media feature post. So… pinky swear you won’t do that!
💡 Topics you see while doing keyword research:
It’s inevitable. You’ll go research keywords for something & will 10000% find topics you could instead write blogs about. Keep a running list of those! And then actually take action on them. 😉
Whew! I’m SO glad I could clear that up for you. 😅
But now that I have… what are you supposed to do with all of that???
