The unedited podcast transcript for this episode of The Basic B podcast follows
Hello and welcome to the Basic B podcast. I'm your host and favorite SEO coach and strategist, Brittany Herzberg. Today, Megan Yelaney is back on the podcast. I'll link her previous visits to the pod below so you can check them out. If you don't know Meg yet, shame on you, I'm kidding. But she's my business coach, a dear friend, and as of last year, an SEO client. And I invited her on so we can capture her story and experience with SEO now that she's gone
Through the whole SEO and grow method. So we'll get to talk about all of that. Plus, she says brilliant things and I never capture it. So like we have to plan these things. my god.
Megan Yelaney (00:36.046) Hi L Hi. It's so fun to do this with you because we just like are talking on every platform and every way. Like Instagram is friend, Voxer is for mostly my business, but sometimes yours. And then Slack is me coaching you. And I'm like, wait, okay, what role are we in today? So I'm obsessed. I love it.
Brittany Herzberg (00:56.194) All of the above. Yeah, I'm one of those weirdos that can bounce between platforms and at first I was like, I'm going to annoy you 'cause I'm just like all over and then you added another one. I was like, This is great. We were totally vibing.
Megan Yelaney (01:06.87) It keeps it organized. You're like, Okay, this is for this, this is for that, you know. And it's it's just so fun. My husband like jokes, he's like, I love how you just like pay your friends. Like you'll hire your clients. I'm like, Yeah, why wouldn't I? I'm gonna invest in this. I might might as well invest in them. They're the best. Yeah.
Brittany Herzberg (01:24.462) That's how I feel. And plus it's definitely with like your and my work together, you get me and I get you. And that's just been so beautiful. Plus we've experienced the work together, so
Megan Yelaney (01:34.028) Yeah, and I get a peek like behind the hood, if you will. Like Yeah. 'Cause I get to see it all how it's made and I'm like, ooh, as we're going through I'm like, I need this. So let's do that.
Brittany Herzberg (01:43.554) Yeah. Okay, well I definitely want to get into it. And before we do, I would love if you share who you help and how you help them in this world.
Megan Yelaney (01:52.044) Yeah. So I mainly help online coaches and service providers basically find what I call their distinctive edge to really stand out in today's market. So what is that thing about you that makes you even slightly different and unique from your competitors that really you want to be known for? That's the clincher. You want to be known for this. You want to be synonymous with this phrase, this term, this thing. When the people think of you, they think of that or they think of this term, they think of you. So that's really what I help people to find. And then from there, we build out.
Their offers, their messaging, their customer journey, all of that from there. That's really like my stake in the ground is like helping you find that thing and then letting that build the rest of your business.
Brittany Herzberg (02:28.792) Exactly. And I love it. So Meg calls it your distinctive edge. I call it your North Star. But there's definitely some like overlap there, which is why you'll see throughout this entire conversation, I'm sure, just how beautifully like these two things work together. So you, my friend, have a very successful podcast, a very successful Instagram profile. And still you were like, Okay, SEO is something that I want to work on. And you were just kind of hinting at this. So I would love to know what that tipping point was where you went from like, that's cute, maybe someday to no, I need to do this now.
Megan Yelaney (02:58.028) Yeah. Well, I mean, seeing behind the hood, I'm not even a car person. I don't want to use that analogy, but like I got to see what you do with your clients. I got to see your client results. And I was like, I think it was maybe it was Courtney's results. I don't know. It was someone's where like they had to take time off and they still had clients coming in because of people who found them on Google. And I had done like Pinterest and more intentional SEO in my fitness business many years ago.
And for some reason didn't like carry that over. I think it's because Instagram and podcasting was working. So I was like, all right, I'm good. Let's just go with that. But I do remember like once I had things hitting, I would have 10 opt-ins a day and making a like not a crazy amount, but a nice little chunk of change from a nine dollar tripwire. And I never promoted it. It was people who were actively searching for the thing that I had. And for some reason I didn't transfer that over to my business coaching business.
And so working with you, seeing that, seeing those those wins, I was like, I just started to feel, especially at the time of like life I'm in with my two and a half year old twin sons, I'm like, I want less time working. And while I'm not gonna stop social because I genuinely do love creating and it's like enjoyable for me, I know I can make it work for me so much further. And I know SEO is such a big way. So I really wanted to start bringing in leads without me having to actually be on, without me actually having to post the post. But
having a blog or having Pinterest or something go to someone searching something and they just find it. And I know that kind of customer is so much more likely to buy because you're not interrupting them on a short form platform. Like, hey, pay attention to me. I got to get your attention with this hook, like kind of in their face. They're actively going, I want help with this thing. And then they find you. And I know the power of that. I've literally taught the power of that. And I just kind of lost it. I got like away from it for a few years, you know?
And so I was like, it's one of those things, like anything, it's gonna take time to build. I've gotta start it now. And yeah, I'm really glad because now, as we've been talking about, you know, separately, everything is becoming SEO if I'm platform is like really prioritizing that. So it's like now more than ever, everyone needs to know their their SEO.
Brittany Herzberg (05:15.104) Yeah. And it's funny because I think messaged you this week or la I don't know, everything just blends together, but I was messaging you and I was like, I've been doing the whole like search everywhere optimization, which is what people are calling it now. But I've done that from the get-go. I never just did SEO and isolation to your website, but it did take me a while. And it took me really until I like with you and TDE about figuring out, this is how I guide people through it. It's the website, then it's the content, then it's the metrics tracking. So that was really helpful for me to see of like,
Have a process. I have things organized, but working with you to be able to organize it even better was really cool. So with the framework, with kind of like seeing everything I had been doing with clients with you in your world, this is gonna get so meta and inception. I can feel it as I'm saying, I'm like, wow, we're gonna do this today. It is. Were you overwhelmed or nervous about anything before you got into SEO stuff? I know you said you had the touch point, but was there anything like that?
Megan Yelaney (05:57.966) I know.
Megan Yelaney (06:02.894) Right. I love it. It's so fun though.
Megan Yelaney (06:14.126) I think I was a little overwhelmed in a sense that am I gonna have to understand or change a lot of stuff? Like, but that's also one reason personally I I did done for you is I yes, I wanna understand it. And I think there's certain things you can outsource, but like you should understand what's happening behind the scenes, especially because which I know we'll talk about with the continued support. Like I wanna be more strategic with my podcast titles and my blogs and like that I need to understand what keywords I'm ranking for, what people are searching for that relates to what I do.
And so I was a little like, gosh, is this going to be another thing I have to learn that's going to be, you know, take a lot of time and energy and effort. But besides that, I wasn't too nervous. I was more excited, honestly, because I knew, once I understand the exact keywords and phrases, I can double down on that. Or like even with your reports, like, hey, this podcast spiked, this blog is getting a lot of traction. We need to recreate this. It's kind of what I do with clients on social. It's like, this did well.
Let's recreate this. It's just from a different platform, you know. And so I think I didn't feel as overwhelmed as I would have because I knew I had your guidance and your support and you did it in such an organized way that was like at a really good pace, I felt like. So that was really fun.
Brittany Herzberg (07:28.206) I love that. Okay. So that was a beautiful segue. So you started with Done Free Website SEO, because I like guiding people through website, then content, then we get into metrics. And with that, so I did a lot of the keyword research. You filled out a questionnaire. I took that, I did keyword research, I found like created the SEO strategies, had you review them, and then I plugged everything into the website. But what was that? You again hinted at it, but what was that experience like for you just as the client, receiving all of that and then
Maybe even with like how the reviews felt.
Megan Yelaney (08:01.208) I think one of the things that was really cool and just like eye opening is with your like, hey, your analysis of my site and stuff is one what I was actually ranking for that I was shocked I was ranking for, that I did not want to be ranked for. like things about separating from your husband, which definitely is part of my story, but not it's like not something I talk about constantly. I'm like, I had one real blow up is that one like it's like crazy to me. So
I'm like, okay, well, that's definitely not what I want to be ranking for. So it was very eye-opening. Like, yeah, this was definitely what I needed because I want to change that. And another thing too is I want to show up in AI search. That's like a really big thing now. And so I know it's just having good SEO is how you show up in AI search. That's yeah, that's the secret. And so I think once I got that report, realizing that was just like, okay, I made the right decision. I'm so glad we're fixing this. And then the monthly reports are really, really helpful because again, they really guide.
I know what my content's gonna be in terms of like I know where I'm driving traffic to, if I'm running an event or this is what I'm pushing. But the way you phrase it, I could be talking about like I'm gonna do a workshop called the content fix, right? And I could have content going out to promote that, but I will phrase the titles now in ways that you're telling me, Hey, people are actively searching this phrase. Put that in the title, put that as the blog post. And that will make such a difference in it actually getting seen to people beyond just my Instagram following or email list. And so
Those are really, really insightful and helpful. And now we've created a system to like plan out the month ahead of time. So I know going in like what I'm recording, I know what the blogs are gonna be. And that just feels like, wow, I'm building this portfolio really for Google to, you know, rank me and and put put all that up. And I think the other thing that was really interesting is like I remember you saying, let me submit that to Google Search Console, I think. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Like all my pages and like all these little things. And I'm like,
I would have no idea that I should be doing that. Like what? And so it's just like a whole other world that really can massively increase your visibility and your findability. So it just you don't know until you you know kind of thing.
Brittany Herzberg (10:11.126) A lot of the tweaks are very small. Like we did something recently where it was like, I think what you brought to the table was you were like, if you're feeling behind in business. And I was like, okay, let me go do some keyword research on that. So this was more for content like post website SEO fix, but it was something else that ended up, it was like feeling stuck in your business. I think. So it was like a tiny little word change, but it's gonna make all the difference with that title. You're not losing your voice, you're not losing the core essence of the message that it is that you want to share.
And we can do this before you record. We can figure this out after you record. So even that just playing with it and figuring out like what's the order of operations here and how does it best fit into your existing workflow, not to add more to your plate, but to make what you're doing actually have a further reach for much longer. Yeah. Which I think is so
Megan Yelaney (10:59.43) Yeah. Like we were saying, TikTok and Substack and Instagram now too. and I think even threads, like all of it is starting to move. TikTok especially is very much SEO based, is really moving towards SEO. Like if you don't have that. So that was another thing that I was excited for is like, I can really use this for other platforms and like be a little bit more strategic with wanting to get found and again, not just interrupting people. I think we forget sometimes like
We're so used like, especially lately as we're recording this, people like blowing up and popping off and seeing all these creators have this wildly fast growth. And that's awesome. And it's not the norm. And I just think it's really easy to go, okay, I just need to get that viral real. But what if you could actually be really intentional with the keywords you're putting in? And so that people are searching for the thing and maybe it doesn't go viral, but it actually is found by buyers. You know, I'd much rather.
have people find my page and my posts who are literally looking for help with that thing, then, it happens to get a ton of views, but like none of them really care about the thing. You know? And so that's that's another big, big reason I I wanted to like lean into it too.
Brittany Herzberg (12:09.206) Yeah, and I've seen so many larger Instagram accounts. I have a lot of business owners that come in and they have large Instagram accounts. And I'm like, cool. But the more you talk to people, the more it's like not all of them are converting. We see that number and we assume that equals sales and it does not equal sales.
Megan Yelaney (12:23.662) no. It's wild. I've had actually, I think it's three or four people with really large audiences, like hundreds of thousands, come work with me. One did an intensive, one did a VIP day. And I was shocked that like what they were making, to be quite honest. Like that they weren't making more. I'm like, I have clients with less than $2,000 making more than them.
Like it's wild. And it's not because they don't have the followers, obviously, but it does not equal sales, right? And again, like they might have something go viral, but are those buyers? Like people, again, it's just the coolest thing to be found because someone literally searched for the thing you help them with and then they find you. They're like, I'm looking to solve this problem. That's a buyer. Yeah. You know?
Brittany Herzberg (13:09.39) I call them warm to hot leads or like write and ready clients. I heard someone say that one time and I was like, I hope I love that. Yeah. So I like adopted that because I'm like, that's perfect. That's exactly what it is. They're searching because they have a need. Right then, they're looking for someone. They find you, boom, it's like a done deal. They're just doing a vibe check at that point by the time they come to your website or by the time that they come over to your Instagram profile. Because your Instagram profile or your podcast, they don't go away as assets. If anything, it like makes it more of a touch point where they're like, Meg does this. Hmm.
What about this? What about that? Let me check her out. I like her. Okay. Let me send her a message. It just makes things go a lot faster and gets them into your, I don't know, vortex a lot faster.
Megan Yelaney (13:46.838) Yeah. And it gives you, I think, more to play with with long form content too, like weaving it into podcast or blog. And once you have that, then you have somewhere to send people off of these apps. Because most people are not gonna buy just because they saw an Instagram post. They're gonna get onto your list. They're gonna come to an event. They're gonna read your blogs. They're gonna listen to your podcast. And so if you can consistently send them to a podcast or to a blog that has SEO baked into it, like one, it's just getting new people, but it's also warming up.
your current people and really that's how they become buyers. It's not just because they followed you from a real
Brittany Herzberg (14:21.186) Yeah, exactly. So I know one of the things we've done is definitely been content. We've had regular blog posts, you've kind of gotten back into writing and we've been able to do SEO for those. We talked a bit about the podcast. You've also had profiles where we looked at those too. The keyword, the key phrase that we ended up landing on, I think it was like messaging strategist, business strategist and messaging strategist, something like that. When I brought those keywords to you, was it like this fit or was it like, I wasn't thinking of phrasing of it like that? But
And it might be too far removed from when we actually did this. But do you remember
Megan Yelaney (14:53.87) I think I remember it being like, yeah, this makes sense. This definitely fits. And that was interesting too to see like, again, this is one of those things, if you don't know it, you don't know it. But like the certain things on the back end of your like the H one and all those, which I never knew what any of that stuff meant. Like I've heard it. I think everyone's heard of H one and all that jazz, but I didn't know what that really meant. And to see, my website might look beautiful.
But this one line is not optimized at all. Like that is not what people are searching. We need to flip it around. And so that was really interesting and really cool when we were working with the design team to like get that all in motion. Yeah. Cause like you said, you're like, we can have a the most beautiful website, but is it actually going to be found? Like we want it to be that's the whole purpose is not to just look pretty, but to actually get found. And so that was really interesting to me because we spent a lot of time on that. And just like even the images on the site that weren't
Uploaded with the right keywords and stuff like that. Like I learned so much about that. I'm like, wow, there's so much potential and and so much we could do here to really get found more.
Brittany Herzberg (15:52.076) Yeah. I forgot that you were my person that I was talking about for a while because when the design team created your website, it was gorgeous. It still is gorgeous. And there were like twenty something H1s on the website pages. And I was like, I have to tell her this.
Megan Yelaney (16:07.214) 'Cause d most designers are not SEO experts. I mean, what a cool collab though. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Like designers. Yeah. Yeah.
Brittany Herzberg (16:13.902) I really do love doing that. And for anyone listening, if you haven't heard this before, you want one each one on the page. So to have like in the teens and in the twenties, I was like, we have some work to do, but it's gonna be worth it, I promise.
Megan Yelaney (16:26.786) And just for I guess I know you're the host of this podcast, but for the for your listeners, is it what is it I know I would ask this question, is like how does it negatively affect to have more than one?
Brittany Herzberg (16:37.846) Yeah. It really makes it challenging for anyone who has visual impairment. They use these things called screen readers. And it will actually read things and it'll I think even read things in level of importance. H one is considered really important. So that's one way it it impacts accessibility. It also impacts like the bots that are crawling the pages because they're looking for the H one to be like what's the main thing here? And they're looking for that to have that main keyword. So if there's 20, they're competing.
Megan Yelaney (17:05.994) that makes so much sense. Yeah. Okay. Thank you for explaining that. No, it's like I kind of knew that, but I was like, I wanted to get the solid answer of why. So
Brittany Herzberg (17:10.44) Glad that you asked.
Brittany Herzberg (17:16.578) And this is how you do such a beautiful job with content for those of us that you work with. 'Cause you're like, but why? Okay, say this here.
Megan Yelaney (17:23.182) I'm like, this is a really good post, you should do this.
Brittany Herzberg (17:25.802) It's great. I love it. Well, I actually made a note because I was like, You're always thinking in terms of like hooks for reels. Yeah. And I'm always thinking in terms of like SEO titles. And it really does there's just this beautiful, seamless way that these two things work together because you're really trying to pull forward like, what's the main thing you do? Why are you different? Why should someone work with you? And I'm over here like, what's the big thing that you want to get found for? And very similarly, like, why should people be working with you? So yeah. They're just this like happy little marriage.
Megan Yelaney (17:52.776) It really is. We've had so many clients go from your program to mine or mine to yours. And and so many of our mastermind clients, which has been so cool because then they're like also your buddy. But I think it's because people are realizing, now I know what I want to be known for. Awesome. What keywords do I need to put in my website and in my content to actually be known for that? I know what I want to be known for, but what are people actually and it's the same thing for yours? It's like when they can do it in e any order. We know that.
But I do think going from mine to yours is probably the best scenario because then you get this nice, like, this is so clear. They don't have to question this. Where you've seen is like, okay, we've optimized as much as we can, but we still have need the clarity of what you want to be known for. Go over. It can work either way, but it is a very beautiful relationship. I've loved collabbing with you in that way. It's been so cool. Yeah.
Brittany Herzberg (18:45.24) Same. And then we did have the one, the co-parent collective, that just like have absolutely been blown up on Instagram. I love every time you shout them out. And the cool thing there is that they had their SEO done first and then they're like, We're looking to work with a business coach. And I was like, Do you already have someone? And they're like, No, I was Are you open to recommendations? Because the more I dug in and asked them questions, what they were wanting was everything that you do at TDE. So I was like, go over there, do this. So as their Instagram profile has blown up, their website is right there to support them, which has been really cool to see.
Megan Yelaney (19:14.862) Exactly. That's such a good point. Is like actually yesterday, this is such good timing because yesterday they I'm gonna actually bring up the Slack message. they're gonna be on my podcast to like talk about their experience. And they started with less than 300 Instagram followers. It's like April or May, maybe that they joined, maybe June even. They just transferred to the continuation. So June, July, August, September. So yeah, it was May. They have 9,461.
Brittany Herzberg (19:43.598) Last time I w checked in with you they had seven thousand that's insane.
Megan Yelaney (19:47.33) They literally grew like two thousand in like a week.
Brittany Herzberg (19:50.326) I love this. I'm so happy for them.
Megan Yelaney (19:52.628) It's so crazy. So one of the things that they shared yesterday though, is they had over a hundred people sign up for their workshop. Still a lot of time to promote, but three podcasts released in in the last week, two separate purchases made from our website. I was like, I have to screenshot that and send that to Brittany. And so it's like they might have found them from Instagram and gone to the website, but if the website wasn't clear, wasn't optimized, all of that, like it's such a symbiotic relationship. And especially for them, because they're not selling high ticket coaching, cause so it's not like
DM us and talk to us in depth because it's going to be this big package. Yeah. They're very busy. They have families. They have full time jobs as therapists. Like they literally are doing this in the cracks, which is so cool too, that they've been able to do this in like very limited time. So they're they're selling courses. And that especially when people aren't going to talk to you as much. Yeah. Your stuff needs to work for you if you're trying to sell digital products, which essentially they are.
Brittany Herzberg (20:47.901) that is so cool. That makes me so happy for them.
Megan Yelaney (20:50.038) Yeah. I was like, wait, this is perfect. They literally posted this in the wind channel yesterday. This is my gosh. Good timing.
Brittany Herzberg (20:53.944) Perfect. Go while timing. So with that, like thinking up. So we talked to like website, we've talked content, then we get into like metrics and that kind of thing. So you've mentioned the monthly reports and you've opted for done for you for all of these different aspects, which has been really fun because I love having my hands in everything and being able to be like, I have this idea. I'm seeing this. But what has stood out from that part of things?
Megan Yelaney (21:21.966) I think sometimes with website stuff, it can feel very like, I don't know, just out there and it's like tricky to track. But it's not. I know like I could go figure out how to look at it just like I do with my Instagram insights. But even that, I'm not great at tracking my Instagram insights. Like it's just not the thing when I'm creating and I'm coaching, like it's one of the last things I actually track and I should track. Like I do need to, but I know myself. I know with where I'm out in business and my life with the boys.
I'm just not gonna do it, but I know it needs to be done. So honestly, one of the the things is like, Hey, I need to know what's happening behind the scenes. Can you tell me? So that then we can go, my gosh, look, you had this many more hits to your site from a big thing that I've realized too, that's been really helpful in the last few months doing this with you is like the collaborations I've done. It's like, you had a big spike here. This person was on your page or you were on theirs. You need to do another collab with them. Like,
you got a lot more traffic to your site with this specific person. Cause when you're doing a lot of collabs, which I'm really doing a lot more collabs in the last two years, it's my favorite, favorite way to grow. It's just so fun. It's like supporting people who you like. Yeah. But sometimes, you know, they land and sometimes they don't. And that's fine. But the ones that land, you're like, ooh, let's do this again. Like it's such a mutually beneficial thing. Right. And so that's been really, really cool. And just even finding like you're like, you got found an AI search. I'm like, what? Okay.
And just again, like some of the keywords that I was getting found for that I didn't want to get found for, we're seeing those go down. We're seeing the others go up. And it's so nice because I feel like I'm like shouting this non blue in the face with clients sometimes of how you have to just try things. You got to experiment, you gotta be consistent with it, you've got to wait it out sometimes. And that can be so frustrating. That's why people quit. And it's so similar to to SEO. It's like the more blogs I put out,
The more we get this stuff out there, the more the bots are gonna learn what my site is for and separation from your husband ranking will go down and and the other will go up, you know? And so I actually love, I get excited when I get my SEO report because I'm like, ooh. I mean, I tend to check it like two weeks later because I was delayed with that stuff. But once I check it, I'm like, my gosh, this is so exciting because now I know what's working, what's not. Yeah. All that jazz. And something I was talking with another client in our mastermind about this actually is
Megan Yelaney (23:45.536) It's such an ecosystem. And I think a lot of the times people struggle in business when they're using social media or I should just say website, anything. They're not just doing word to mouth, right? Just referrals. Is they think of it so compartmentalized. They're like, my Instagram reels are taking off. They think, the client signed up after I made this reel. That means that that's what got it. Right. When really the client opened five, six months worth of emails.
They binge your podcast. They read a couple of blogs. They watched all your stories. That reel might have tipped them over. But if they didn't do all that other stuff, it's an ecosystem. Especially again, if you're selling high ticket, it's a journey. They're not gonna just buy, they're gonna binge a lot of stuff. Some people might binge quickly, but they're still gonna binge. I don't know anyone who has ever seen one post of mine and signed up for anything. Like nothing high ticket. They're going to binge a lot of stuff. Some do it real fast, some take
Months and some take years, you know? And so that's just something that I think SEO really helps with. It helps boost your whole ecosystem and make the journey for the client so cohesive. Cause if someone goes to your Instagram and then they go to your website and then they go to your podcast and it feels really disjointed and confusing and separated, it's like, wait, what do you do? Like what I'm con I'm confused, you know? And so I think SEO is this nice like the glue that holds it all together in a sense, because it could be consistent everywhere.
Brittany Herzberg (25:10.286) That is so true. And I actually like wrote some notes before we chatted because there were some things I wanted to call out. And that was one of the things I like, SEO is like the through line for all of these things. So I love how you said it much better than what I had written down though.
Megan Yelaney (25:24.376) I was like, there you go, take that. That is promo to put on your website. Exactly.
Brittany Herzberg (25:27.606) Yeah, we're putting that somewhere. But like I think just before we started recording, I told you this that in August of last month, you had 10 visits to your website from just AI searches and they're spending like two and a half minutes on the site once they're there. So
Megan Yelaney (25:41.006) I didn't see that report yet, so I'm so excited. I'm like, wait a minute, we this is so
Brittany Herzberg (25:43.886) She's like, my God. Yeah. And I think last month you had either like one or two. It was lower, but it's fun. Like all these little quote unquote wins, they add up. And like you said, there's so many opportunities. It's like, this feels good. This is cool. It's been really awesome to see the collaborations too. Like you get confirmation from the data. So, like you were saying, with like the whole journey, yes, it could have been that one reel that they purchased from, but there's been this whole other like journey that they've gone on where it's like.
They did this, they did that, they did this. And then they took the action. But you do have to warm them up. You do have to have that cohesive ecosystem. You do have to really be clear. And you know this. I've had some clients that have had crazy incredible wins in like two weeks after implementing their SEO strategy. Yeah. For other people, it's taken like a year and a half before they had something like really, really, really latch on and just like help propel them to the next level. So you never know what that's gonna look like.
And you have all of these opportunities. And if you're waiting for some magical moment to be like, now is the time, that's silly because you can have that moment happen in the future. And then everything that you've done prior, taking all of the right steps and following all of the best practices, that can then pop off when you have that whatever magical moment it is.
Megan Yelaney (26:58.478) I saw someone else make a post about this recently, but it's so true. And SEO is like, again, that glue or that through line is you want to be ready for the influx. Like if you're gonna get an influx of people coming to your page and saying, like, how can I work with you? What can I do next? You wanna be ready for that. And your SEO is such a way to get ready for that, like for it all to make sense. Cause again, if you get all these people and then you send them to your site, which is makes no sense or so confusing, it's like,
okay. Well, this isn't the same. This doesn't make sense. And that it doesn't have to look beautiful. It doesn't have to be super professional. It's more so just like people want safety and congruency is safety. Yeah. If people don't feel that, like, okay, this person is consistent. I get it. This makes sense. That's kind of like it's a big thing we talk about with defining your edge. It's like you're gonna be known for something, it's gotta be well rounded and it's gotta be everywhere you are.
Otherwise, that safety kind of gets rattled and that trust gets rattled. And that's when they're like, I don't know. They're talking about this thing over here and then this thing. I'm what do they do? I'm kind of confused, you know? And so this is like a really good way to instill that trust. And people are they're buying for sure, but it's a different market right now. People are cautious. They're taking longer. That's for sure. The customer journey is definitely longer right now. we've seen that this year for sure, but they're still buying. They just need time because they have been burned.
And they're really being careful about their purchases. So instilling that trust is keeping it cohesive. And SEO is such a great way to do that.
Brittany Herzberg (28:29.95) You talk about like really bringing your opinion, bringing your whatever like the hot take is or your experience. That's something that really you need to highlight with SEO, especially in this age of like AI content creation. Like, yes, there's a lot of garbage out there. And the way to separate yourself is to be like, Well, I do this with my clients and here's a story and here's a thing, which you pull out of them in TDE. That is the thing that is going to show you as the incredible human, the incredible coach, the incredible whatever kind of provider that you are, whatever work you're doing.
It's going to be the thing that's going to be like, that's really cool. And like you said, give that safety and allow them to feel good about moving forward with whatever that next step is. Whether it's a course, whether it's like a one to one coaching or a group thing or whatever. It doesn't matter. Yeah. I love that. I could get on that stuff opt and just stay there forever. Do you have any final thoughts for someone who is maybe like sitting on the fence and I don't know, SEO sounds kind of good, but is it worth it? Like anything for them?
Megan Yelaney (29:23.788) Yeah, it's honestly, if you're not figuring out what your SEO is, I don't want to say this to fearmonger or like make anyone be nervous, but kinda like you're behind. Like you you just are. And it's something you could fix easily. I sound like those people who are like, if you don't have your whole AI team, you're behind, you know. Which I just saw a reel about that yesterday. I was like, my god, I'm behind. I'm so behind. But it's just true. And the thing is, it's very easily fixable.
When you think about it being confusing or not worth it, do a quick Google search on how worth it it is. Because if again, if you want to pop off on any of these platforms, having the right SEO is gonna literally help you do that. And again, you're popping off because people are searching for what you do. It's the best way to grow. Like I would choose that over anything going viral any day because it's people who want to purchase. So if you want people who are actually
Actively looking for what you do over people who you just have to try to interrupt, you have to do have SEO. You have to have it. And it seems like this nebulous thing in the air versus, I don't know why. Versus like maybe because this is probably why. On Instagram, for example, you can see the number of views of everyone's content. So you visually see this got X amount of views. Whereas unless you go in the back end, I'm sure you can search this. Obviously, you can search this.
you can go search what's Jenna Kutcher's website getting, what's Amy Porteville's website getting, what's mine or yours, whatever. But you have to go and search that. No one's doing that. No one's like, I'm gonna go search that. So it's not as visible, but it's just as actually way more powerful. But because we don't see it, it's like air that we breathe. Hey, what like you don't see the air, right? But it's there, you know, it's there. It's I think that's what it is. Like actually now that we're saying this, I'm like
That's kind of what I'm like, why did I avoid it for so long? It's like, yeah, it's not a shiny number that's gonna be like, give me that dopamine hit. But it's funny because it is starting to, because you give me my numbers. And so I didn't know that about the August. I'm like, my God, I got 10 AI searches. I'm like, that's so much cooler to me than something going viral right now on Instagram. Because like people were actually searching for something I help with and spending two minutes on my page. What? Like so much cooler. Yeah. So anyway, that's what I would leave you with is like.
Megan Yelaney (31:44.862) You're behind if you're not doing it and you can catch up. There's I promise you, don't get scared, don't feel stressed. It's very easily done, especially if you have Britney's help and guidance. She's lays it all out for you so simply. And just remember like, are you in this business for vanity and the dopamine hit of a nice reel? Just because that's a lot of my people. Or do you actually want like people who are actively searching for what you do? And you can switch those vanity numbers to your website traffic and like.
That's so freaking cool. So it's really a perspective shift, if that makes sense.
Brittany Herzberg (32:17.226) It does. And I'm even thinking of like all of the clients that I have where they're booking clients, they're selling digital products. I'm like, that can be your new vanity magic of like money in the bank.
Megan Yelaney (32:27.394) Yes. And I'm pumped because I'm already a case study, obviously, for you, but I'm gonna be like a real good case study because I'm creating a digital product. I've had a ton of courses in the all a digital product is is a course. Like I think people get so confused. They're like, What's a digital product? How is it different than a course? I'm like, it's not, it's the same thing. Like it's a product that they purchase and go through, right? Well, like, what's the difference?
Brittany Herzberg (32:47.534) I mean think of like a digital product as a bigger umbrella and of course as like one of the digital products like you could have a template, you could have a whatever, but that's
Megan Yelaney (32:51.84) Yeah, I guess.
That's true. That's true. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. But it's like I think sometimes people are like, but I have a course. And like, that's the same thing. It's just I don't understand. So, anywho, I've had a lot of courses, but I haven't like promoted them. I don't have them actively for sale. And I really want to have a step before T D E for people who are just not there quite yet. And I want it to be like a course, a digital product. And I'm pumped to like really use and leverage SEO to build that. I'm like, that's gonna be fun.
Brittany Herzberg (33:21.64) Yeah, 'cause throwing this like way the heck back. Do you remember I think it was twenty two, twenty three, you were like, Hey, well you do SEO for sales pages. So I ended up putting together a workbook and a video. So I think it's really funny that we're coming full circle and like I get to do that for you now.
Megan Yelaney (33:38.892) No, I know. It's so cool. And it's just been so cool to like on the other side, as yes, your coach, of course, but your friend too, to see how you have just owned this lane. Like you're not, and I can do case studies. and I can do copywriting. It's like this is what I do. This is why you hire me. And it's you're such a great example of owning your edge, honestly, because within your clients, you do help with some copy and you do help with other things, of course. But
the entry point and the thing that you're known for and why your business has grown last year is because it's so clear you're the go to for SEO. You're the person we recommend. You're the queen. And it's been cool to see you just like really confidently own that. Well yeah
Brittany Herzberg (34:16.353) You've helped a ton. So thank you. Thank you. I mean I just I love
Megan Yelaney (34:20.376) To be part of this journey. You know. People are like, Okay, I'm gonna throw off now.
Brittany Herzberg (34:25.388) Before you do that, one, I will let you know that if you are feeling behind with SEO, I was laughing so much because I'm like again, queen of like, you're not behind, you're not behind. If you're feeling like that and you want to do something about it, the SEO sprint is going to be running again later this year. I'll have any links below for whenever this goes live. And then before we go away, my friend, I would love for you to like share where people can connect with you. And if you have anything that's coming up, and we've talked about TDE. So like definitely give them the deets on that too.
Megan Yelaney (34:52.151) And Brittany didn't ask me to say this, but I don't even think I've told you this. But you're like, wait, what are you gonna say? The sprint is new. We've worked on that, developing that in together in the mastermind. And I never told you this. And I'm like, man, if the sprint was available last year, I probably would have done that over Done For You while I loved Done For You. And I I'm very much like, I have no time, get it done for me, please. I probably still would have done that, to be quite honest. But
Brittany Herzberg (34:55.373) I don't know what's coming.
Megan Yelaney (35:20.008) I love that the people who go through the sprint, they get it done so quickly and they get to understand it because there is some beauty in outsourcing and being ignorant. And there isn't because when you're so ignorant, then you don't actually know if something's broken, what is, and all that stuff. And so I think the sprint is such a beautiful kind of almost blend because like it's not done for you, but it's done with you. And you get to get it done so fast and not belabor something that you don't have to spend.
months figuring out you can literally knock it out quick and then you get to go deeper with it. And so, ooh, I wish that was there before I I probably still would have done done for you, honestly. But like it just it's just such a cool offer. I just think it's the coolest. Coolest way to do it. It's so smart.
Brittany Herzberg (36:03.936) Yeah, I mean, once you have people sitting on the fence for like three months in your program and not doing anything, it's like, How can I light a fire under your touch in the nicest, most motivating way?
Megan Yelaney (36:12.46) Yes. You're like, this does not need to take this long. You're overthinking this. It's that whole phrase, like, as long as you give someone to get something done, that's how long it takes them to get it done. Yep. And it's so true. It's like, I'm gonna give myself an hour. cool. It actually took an hour. Sometimes Yeah, of course. That was an aside. You're like, tell me about you. I'm like, wait, first. Gotta tell you about this. we're listening to a podcast. So if you want to hop on over to Business Not as Usual, that's probably the best place to go, honestly. And then Megan Eulane.com
Brittany Herzberg (36:27.758) Well, thank you for that.
Megan Yelaney (36:42.4) All SEO ified out right now. we got our blogs popping off there starting to get uploaded. We're a little backlogged, but we're getting them up there. We have a three-day event happening on the twenty ninth, thirtieth, and October first called the content fix. And it's kind of cool. Like it's really to help you figure out what you want to be known for and how to put that into your content.
But we're doing it in a kind of a unique way this time. because I've run this before, is we're helping you create your three pinned posts that you need to the at the top of your page. I know it's in that fun angle. my god. So it's like, and this goes so in line with what we were talking about this whole time because if someone finds you, and this is not just pinned posts, you can definitely take this and put this on your site, everywhere else. But when someone finds you, awesome, why are they gonna turn from a viewer into a follower into a buyer? They need to understand you. So your top three posts are super important.
So this is specifically with Instagram, but it's gotta be your story, why they're gonna trust you, like why you, what you actually do, how you do it differently. That's your process. That's gonna be your second pin post we work on. And then the third is your proof. Why does this work for other people? How do I know it wasn't a fluke with you? You know? And so it's your story, your framework, and your proof. And I'm really excited about this version because it's just like it's very tangible. You'll actually, you're gonna have templates to write it. Like we're literally giving you.
All of this and there's like a V IP option if you want me to look over your stuff. But I feel like all my clients are gonna join this, even though the
Brittany Herzberg (38:10.254) Want to. I'm over here like this is cool.
Megan Yelaney (38:12.28) Y'all have the training on it in the program, but you know how it is. It's just like when you do something live, you're like, I'm actually gonna do it now Everyone's gonna be like, Can I join? I'm like, Guys, you have this but sure, probably joined.
Brittany Herzberg (38:22.776) notorious for I'm like, wait, Meg, can I get a thing?
Megan Yelaney (38:25.498) Can I 10camp one liner? I'm like, please do not purchase this. You literally have this in your portal, but sure, you can join.
Brittany Herzberg (38:31.95) This is so funny. I love that. And just to give you an extra incentive to go to this, you could take those three pinned posts and turn them into podcast episodes. You could turn them into blog posts. You could turn them into emails. Content for days, people, be smart.
Megan Yelaney (38:41.826) Yes. Totally. I love that. Yay. So yeah, come to Con FX. Brittany will probably be there chatting it up in in the chat anyway. So I love it. You're my hype woman. It's amazing. Right? I'm working on it.
Brittany Herzberg (38:51.439) I'm notorious for
I wish I could just get paid for that. That would be great. my gosh. Thank you so much for this. I'll make sure all of those links are below. I can't wait to see where the rest of your SEO journey goes.
Megan Yelaney (39:05.132) I know me too. Thank you for getting me going. I would not be here without you. So I'm so pumped.
Brittany Herzberg (39:10.358) Well, I'm pumped for you. Thanks, love. Awesome. Thank you. Thanks for listening. And I will catch you on the next episode.
