SEO Sprint Success w/ Burnout Coach Mary Hodson
"If you own a business and you are not even considering SEO, you are seriously wasting a lot of time and effort."
Mary used to think SEO was scarier than doing CPR. Mary, Mary Hodson… who’s a healthcare worker. 😂
After going through my SEO Sprint, she changed her tune. And she’s joining me for this case study interview to tell you all about it!
She's a Burnout Recovery Coach for Rad Techs & other healthcare workers. She came into the SEO Sprint in the middle of launching a new membership—and 14 other things.
Mary decided there was never going to be a “good time” to do SEO, so she just went for it. And boy oh boy is it paying off!
Topics covered in this podcast episode:
Why SEO felt more intimidating to Mary than the responsibilities of a rad tech
The setting that was blocking her site from getting found by Google
Why keyword research needs to happen before you rewrite your website copy
What it was like for Mary to go through the SEO Sprint in the middle of a launch
What Mary's learned about turning old podcast episodes into SEO assets
And what she has to say to other business owners who are feeling intimidated by SEO
Mary’s motivational message for you (what?! I like alliteration)
Remember, SEO is basically extra credit for business owners. Extra credit that can give you warm-to-hot leads, sales while you sleep, AND a website that finally works for you!

Meet: Mary Hodson
Mary Hodson is a registered radiologic technologist who's spent over a decade in healthcare, five of those years living out of a suitcase on travel contracts across the country. She's worked in an array of different hospital settings, from critical access to Level 1 trauma centers, and has heard way too many times: "Oh, you just push buttons."
After hitting burnout hard and finding her way back, she built Healthy in Healthcare, a brand dedicated to healthcare workers, but specifically something the industry rarely talks about: rad techs. The techs who carry just as much weight and get a fraction of the recognition inside the hospital doors. She hosts the podcast Shift Happens, is a public speaker, and runs the Rad Tech Revolution, a community built for rad techs who are done feeling invisible and ready to actually live their lives again.

Hello and welcome back to the Basic B podcast. I'm your host and favorite SEO coach, Brittany Hersberg, and we are back with yet another case study interview because I love them and I get to bring my friends on the show and tell you about their experiences. So today I have one of the most recent-ish SEO sprint graduates, Mary Hodson. So say hi, Mary.
Mary Hodson (00:24.611) Hi, I'm so excited to be here with all of our giggles.
Brittany Herzberg (00:29.423) we're gonna be giggling. Buckle up, friends. It's already been happening.
Mary Hodson (00:34.686) my god.
Brittany Herzberg (00:35.406) Well, I'm so excited to have you here and to be able to like geek out on SEO things. Before we do that, tell us who you are, who you help, how you whatever you do in the world. You know those questions.
Mary Hodson (00:47.446) Whatever the heck I do, spill the beans. Well, I'm Mary, obviously, like Brittany told you guys. I am a burnout recovery coach for radtech specifically and a woman in healthcare. So think of how crazy the healthcare world is. I help them really just feel sane, come home, leave work at work, get over the obstacles, any kind of limiting beliefs that they bring home, bring into the job, things like that, so they can be more than
Just a burnt out body and scrubs, essentially, which we all know is a a really, really big deal in healthcare. Fun fact, I'm a wife, five three crazy dogs, and I really love to travel. So that's me. Yeah, no, I'm not home. I'm in my like Harry Potter closet, like we were talking about earlier. That's how I feel in this thing. it's great. It is cute. Like my little twin beds here. I'm like, I could have a different bed every night. It's fine. We've talked about
Brittany Herzberg (01:23.47) And she's not even home right now.
Brittany Herzberg (01:30.702) I love it though.
Brittany Herzberg (01:37.902) You could. You should. That would be fun. Yeah. Before you go.
Mary Hodson (01:42.402) Like sleepovers in a different room.
Brittany Herzberg (01:44.504) That's really cute. So you are always having like things happening in life, going places, doing things. And that was even part of your SEO journey, which I definitely want to highlight. But before we get into like what it was like being in the sprint and all of the fifty million thousand things you had going on in your life, take us back. What was going on pre SEO Sprint? Maybe even like pre Britney. What did you know about SEO? Was it a blip on the radar? Tell me.
Mary Hodson (02:11.886) I would say maybe a blip on the radar and really more so like just very honest. It's like, I heard somebody said SEO is important. So I should probably like keep that in the back of my mind. But honestly, I'm trying to sit here and think, I really don't know if I even knew what SEO stood for for like the longest time until I met you. Like, did not have any idea what the heck it was.
Of course, like we talk about making like the perfect content, making a beautiful website, like making all these things. I had no idea of any and all the things that it could be incorporated in. So I'd say maybe it was just like a little tickle in the back of my head, but nothing that I even thought was like worth prioritizing really. Cause I was like, it'll figure itself out, right? Like I just thought it was something in the back end. Yeah. I did not know I could like manipulate my SEO to be like what I wanted.
This is just something Google does in the back end. Like I don't need to pay attention to this. And now it's almost like a cool puzzle, like a really cool game.
Brittany Herzberg (03:10.432) It really is I'm getting excited over here. Because that's I talk about that all the time. Like when I was a massage therapist, I talked about that being a puzzle, like the human body and like what's going on there. Yes. And then we segued so seamlessly from massage therapy over into SEO and like that's its own puzzle. But I love that you highlighted that because it totally is.
Mary Hodson (03:27.854) Yes. And it's like, it's so funny. And if I'm jumping around too much, let me know because we all know I'm really good. No, we're doing this. We're doing it. We're going for it. But it's just so funny to like think about how intimidated I was about it. And like I work in healthcare. Like, I mean, I've done CPR, like I've seen a lot of things and I'm like, God, SEO, like this is a computer and this is scary. Like it's just so funny how we're like so ingrained in what we know and what we don't.
And like the fear of the unknown. And I'm like, you literally made this the simplest process ever. Like, yes. Literally the simplest. I'm almost like, Man, Britney, I need to do the sprint again because it was like so easy and like so fun. And I'm just like, let's do it again, round two, which we'll we'll get to that in Sion Grove. We will so yeah. You're like, We're getting there.
Brittany Herzberg (04:15.517) we will get to that.
Brittany Herzberg (04:19.595) I like that you brought that up because so many people think that SEO is techie and it's hard and it's challenging and it's like they also assume, I mean, I did, they assume that Google or your website provider, like I'm on Squarespace, they're like, they'll take care of it. It's just like something that comes with a website. And it's like, no, you have control over this. And it's not that hard to change it to be something that actually feels good and representative of you and what you do and who you help. So I love that you highlighted that. And I've weirdly had people tell me weirdly.
had people tell me that they want to go through programs again. I'm like, really? You want to pay money and go do that again? But like it's crazy cool to me that that happens.
Mary Hodson (04:56.628) It is. Like you just make it so fun. And like, which is so funny to me because we've both talked about like being a techie versus like a non-techie person. And like, I mean, who sits here and says like computer techie stuff is fun? I'm like, wow, I never thought I would say that. And but all the time, I'm like, is this SEO friendly? Is this SEO? Like, does this like match my SEO right now? No, it doesn't. I need to change this. Like, it's so funny. And I feel like I've only like literally scratched the surface. And so I'm like,
Wow, like this is gonna be so crazy to like see where this takes me.
Brittany Herzberg (05:27.596) Yeah, I'm so excited. And you've been nerding out on your data and stuff, which we're totally gonna get to. Yes. Okay. I'll keep pulling us back onto the timeline. Don't you worry.
Mary Hodson (05:35.202) Please keep me on the straight and arrow because I'll be all over the place.
Brittany Herzberg (05:38.486) No, it's great. It adds to the story because it's like it's all factored in. So you weren't really sure what SEO was. Yeah. Thought that Google was doing it on the back end of your website. Yeah. You and I were in the mastermind with Meg and all of the women in there were talking about SEO. And I was, of course, like, my gosh, you could do the SEO for that. You can SEO for that. You can SEO for that. And then eventually Meg was like, Will you do a workshop for us while we're at the mastermind retreat? And I was like, Heck yes. So while we were there, I had had people fill out questionnaires.
Beforehand, I did some keyword research. I put together an SEO strategy, like a simple three part one where I could just talk people through this is what we're doing. And we were able to do that in real life. And it was so fun. I loved that. But like I'm curious what your experience was, just like literally dipping your pinky baby toe in the water at the retreat and then coming into the sprint. Like, how did that feel?
Mary Hodson (06:27.64) First of all, I really opened my eyes to all of the things that were not working on the back end for me that could have been. Perfect example is like we pour so much time and so much energy and so much brain power into social media. But like if you do not keep showing up for that, obviously it's not going to keep working for you. And I really distinctly remember like in the middle of our workshop, I was looking because I use system.io for my stuff. And there was literally a little box that you were like.
No, you need to uncheck that because that's making sure none of your stuff is being seen. And I was like, wait, what? Like this little simple box can like make sure stuff is happening. And like just something as simple as that was very like needle moving for me. And the more we were talking, it was just like, wow, this is such a beautiful picture of like what I want to be known for. People are not going to be able to find me for for this very simple thing that I can fix versus like.
Okay, public speaking, for example, a lot of people don't, I mean, they might, but they're not going to social media. Like they're gonna Google that stuff. I want to come up and Google because that's where my people are. And it just really made me realize that like that door was very shut and sealed because I wasn't doing anything for it. So the workshop at first was a little overwhelmed. I'll be honest. I was like, but I think it was because everybody was buzzing with their energy, right? And then once we were done, I was like, wait, like.
I just need to go in here and fix this stuff. Okay, now tell me how the heck I fixed this stuff. If like you like painted the picture so nicely, this is what needs fixed. And then I just needed to know how to fix it, which is what we did in the sprint. And it was so nice, like literally so eye-opening.
Brittany Herzberg (08:11.126) love hearing that. It's hard to not make SEOB overwhelming at the very, very beginning. It's brand new. Your nervous system is shot. You're like, what is this thing? Yeah. So it's just so natural for it to be like coming out like what is it, like a fire hose, and just be like, here's so much information and here's this brand new thing. And then you're like, I have to do all of this. But that's why I love I'm so happy that I pulled everything out and put it into the two week sprint. You actually went through it when it was the five day sprint. So I definitely want to highlight that too. Yeah. But
That makes it so much more doable. And there's a fire in your touch it's just like, get in, get this part done. And then from there, the rest of it's a lot easier and much more manageable. But it's that really like intro beginning, get your website SEO setup that's like,
Mary Hodson (08:52.974) Well, and I think it did really come into a lot of like my own like hesitations, I guess, because it's almost one of those things that you naturally hear like SEO or a techie term and you just like turn your brain off. Cause you're like, nope, that's too much for me. That's too much for me. And I don't remember exactly how you said it, but you were like, does anybody really know like what SEO was? And we're all kind of like looking at each other like this is probably not what everybody else was thinking, but this is what I was thinking. I was like,
Somebody please be a dumbass like me too. Like I promise I'm educated, but like I don't know what this is. And then you went right to like, okay, that's fine that you guys don't know this, but like we're gonna start with who you are and what you do and how you help them. You don't start with, let's break down SEO. We break down like who are you? What do you want to do? Okay, this is how we make SEO work. So it's almost like this beautiful puzzle that comes together after I like turned my brain back on.
Brittany Herzberg (09:44.936) It's okay. It's very normal for brains to shut down at that point. Like you said, because we we hear a thing and it's like, no. Like for me, I would hear coding. Like, no, thank you. We're not doing that. And I'm also glad that you brought up the fact that you're like, Can someone be an idiot for me? Because later. It's so normal for us to be like, especially as business owners, we are professionals. We do have certifications. We do know what we're doing. We have helped other businesses grow. We're very capable people.
Mary Hodson (09:53.854) No things. Literally.
Brittany Herzberg (10:13.026) But then you throw these three little letters in there and it's like, I'm an idiot. I don't know what's happening. Yeah. But it's so normal. And that's why I call it out. It's not being called out in like, let me make you feel bad. It's being called out in like, we have a level playing field here. Like we are all on the same page. We don't know what's going on. That's fine. I need you to check in with yourself first and then I'll show you how to put the puzzle pieces where they go.
Mary Hodson (10:34.87) Yes, yes, I loved it. It was perfect.
Brittany Herzberg (10:37.494) I love hearing that. That makes me so happy. So take us in to the crazy week that was your SEO sprint week. Because again, this was five days. It was the very first round that I did it. So I was like, we're doing a call every single day. We're going to have five tasks. Like I think it was still structured pretty well. And it was a lot in five days, which I'm aware. And you even like had a great suggestion, which we could talk about. And I've applied that to future rounds. But like, what was happening in your life that week, ma'am?
Mary Hodson (11:04.34) literally everything. I was like sitting here thinking. So I was definitely launching because I remember asking you what the dates were. And I looked at my calendar and I was like, okay, if I get all of my launch stuff done, I am only launching and doing this sprint, which to some people might like really panic them. But again, I don't know if that's just like the healthcare worker in me, but like I thrive in like a chaos situation in like a multitasking situation. Like we've talked about this a ton not having work.
And having free time has been like bad for me because I'm like, I don't have enough on my plate to keep me like centered, which probably very toxic, but it's fine. But serious, we need to cut back on our to-do list. We've talked about that. Launching that week, and really that was quote unquote my only thing. But I'm trying to think, was that the first? I think that was the
Brittany Herzberg (11:42.062) I'm on the same page though, honestly.
Mary Hodson (11:57.848) first iteration of my membership. So it was a new program too at that. So you know, you have those jitters of like, is everybody gonna love this? Like who's gonna see this? So you're like, you want to be very, very present. And I'm like, man, do I want to take on this techie project while I'm doing this? I'm pretty sure like the week before, two weeks before, I had gotten another speaking gig though. So I think all of the stars aligned and like my intuition was telling me like if you want more of this, you need to be doing this. So I was like, okay.
It's just a week. I can do this. I can freaking do this for a week. When we started day one, everything about it was beautiful. But I thought in that moment, I was like, I have change all my copy of my website this week too. We're doing that too. We are adding that. So three like pretty big things to accomplish in one week, but it felt so doable. Like at each day that we progressed, it was so doable. Like that's really the only way I can describe it. Cause it's just so perfectly curated.
I love a checklist. Like I love, love a checklist. And we loved the Google Doc checklist so much. I was like, I did my homework for the day. Check that off. Like I was so excited. And I think I I made it to all the calls but one. And I think it was just because I had a client call at that time and I watched the replay and I still felt so supported between like Telegram and the resources and the videos. Like it was very, very doable in a season where I was like, I can't take anything else right now.
Brittany Herzberg (13:24.488) Except the sprint. We're gonna throw that on there. And add in copywriting. Copy why not?
Mary Hodson (13:26.584) Literally.
Mary Hodson (13:30.88) like so eye-opening that I was like, man, like my copy is not doing a lot of my heavy lifting that it could be for me. I didn't know. Like really, it was not like I did anything wrong, which you really were really good at like showing this isn't wrong. This just isn't like maximum potential right here. And I was like, perfect. Let me just rewrite my whole freaking copy here.
Brittany Herzberg (13:52.822) So talk to that for a second because this is something that comes up all the time. Whether people there's a few different scenarios. It's one like yours where you like end up in my world and then you're like, I should redo my copy. I'm gonna choose to add that in. Because I even say in the sprint, like it's optional. You don't have to feel like you need to do that. There's also the version of things where people I have this conversation almost weekly. I need to redo my website copy. So I can't do SEO until I redo my website copy.
Mary Hodson (14:19.502) No, no, no. I feel like you wanna do it the opposite.
Brittany Herzberg (14:21.959) I'm handing off the mic to you, my friend.
Mary Hodson (14:24.226) Literally, I feel like you want to do an opposite. Cause like it was either day one or day two when well, I think it might have been day two. Because day one, we talk about our North Star, right? And then day two, we do our keyword research. That was like when you were pointing that out. You were like, these are the words that you want to be in there. I was like, those words are like nowhere to be found in my copy. But I would not have known the keywords to have until I did SEO first. And then you want to put that in your copy. Like, no, like, no, don't do the copy first, guys. Aren't wrong. Like,
Brittany Herzberg (14:54.444) And it is doable that way, but I think it's just easier. Yeah. If you do the SEO first, find the keywords, get some clarity there. Because then you're locked in on what it is that your North Star is. You really are clear on like I wanna be speaking to these people. I wanna make sure they know that I do this thing.
Mary Hodson (15:09.494) Yes. And I really think in the grand scheme of things, it will s well, I know it will save you so much time because my first iteration of my website, I can remember sitting down for the copy and I'm like, How should I be saying this? Like, how should I to like society I'm quoting? I nobody can see me that I'm quoting, but like, what is the proper way to say this? And then when we went through the sprint, I was like, wait, no. Like my ideal client is searching for this because this is what they are saying. I think it takes the pressure off of us being
like molded and I don't want to say not professional because we're all professionals, but we sit down and when we try to write copy, we try to be so formal and so fancy. And it's like, no, what is your client searching for? And that was the huge light bulb moment I had in the sprint was like, my copy does not reflect what my client is searching for. So they're not going to find me. And the sprint,
You're like, these are your keywords you should be using. This is what people are searching for. And the copy just flowed so much faster that way. Cause it was like, that's naturally how I talk too. So
Brittany Herzberg (16:12.93) Yeah. So there's that. There's also you're bringing up a good point that comes up with other people as well with copy. And that's that it's not about sounding professional, because you are a professional. You are an expert. You have whatever credentials, experience, all the things. It's like the other thing that you want to be mindful of is how are you, Mary, saying the words and bring that into your website. Like so many of us are like, I can't say that. Yes, you can. Like that's gonna be something that people are going to encounter on a coaching call. Bring it into the copy.
Mary Hodson (16:43.116) Yes. Yeah. I remember multiple times like you looked at my stuff and you're like, this isn't what you would say. This does not sound like you. Like rewrite this to sound like you, because I know what Mary sounds like. And I'm like, You're right. I tried to tone it down a little bit. And then I would rewrite it and you're like, that's better. Put that in there. And I'm like, Are you sure? Are you are you sure? And like clearly it's working. So
Brittany Herzberg (17:02.784) Yeah. Okay. So that was SEO Sprint. And just like I guess to recap for anybody who hasn't maybe heard it, the SEO sprint, you have the program portal, you have video lessons in there that are bite sized. You have the workbook in there. You have the call replays that live in there, and you keep access to that even after the SEO sprint ends. So there's that. You also have Telegram, you're in the community while that's live. Access does end to that at the end of the SEO sprint. And then I'm also up in your workbook, like you were talking about, which is hosted in Google Docs.
Yeah. So you have those like three kind of areas. Anything else you want to share about the experience itself?
Mary Hodson (17:38.734) The workbook itself was literally worth its weight in gold. That's all it has. Literally, I still look at that thing. I'm like, wait, hold on, let me go back and look at this. Like that. I love it. Yes.
Brittany Herzberg (17:42.35) I love you.
Brittany Herzberg (17:48.642) That's great. I love my gosh. Is there anything else you've gone back and referenced?
Mary Hodson (17:54.262) A lot of times it's just like reminding myself like where are my keywords and like how would I start to search for like different things as I'm like building, which I'm assuming we'll also get to that in SEO and Grow. Just so everybody knows I'm putting it in the universe. I'm joining SEO and Grow at some point. Like
Brittany Herzberg (18:09.442) glad you waited for it to be revamped 'cause it's gonna make so much more sense now.
Mary Hodson (18:12.61) I'm so excited for you. Like, I'm just like nosy perspective too, but also for myself.
Brittany Herzberg (18:18.094) it's great. I love that. Okay. I love that you love the workbook. Yes. What else are you looking forward to? I mean, SEO and Grow, which I can definitely talk about, but like what else are you looking forward to or what have you been up to? Or like I know you've been data nerding it out.
Mary Hodson (18:30.122) Yeah, I literally we were just talking about this. I don't exactly know what everything means, which I am very much a person like, don't just tell me what to do. I need to know why I'm doing it and why like this is like a reflection of my hard work or whatever. But I have taken up blogging again, which is so exciting. Cause I used to blog a ton, like when I first was traveling for work. And honestly, you have also made that so easy because sometimes I'm like, I don't really know what to blog about. And you're like,
A podcast, for example, would be a great way to make that SEO friendly. That is also something else on my to-do list when we get back home, is to go back and SEO ify my old podcasts. I literally never thought about that until you brought that up the other day. I was like, wait, like those are just sitting there and they could be doing so much for me. Like that is just something I still can't wrap my head around. Is like these things could be working for me in the background. So like those those are like the big things that have been in my world lately. So
Brittany Herzberg (19:29.998) I love that. Okay. Well, here, you give me a good intro for this. So once you're done with the SEO's front, the idea is that if you would like additional support, you can come into SEO and grow. You're in there for three months. There's a theme for each of the months. Well, you're doing content every month. And then the idea is that like one month you can go ham on like your social media profiles, directory listings. Another one you're gonna go deep on like podcast guesting or speaking, which is big for you, any of those assets. So like headshots or
landing pages like media page or links page or speaker page. and then another one is finding and fixing errors so that you can show up in more places and just like have your stuff really working well for you with no obstacles. And so that once people are on your website, they're actually able to have a good experience and get where they need to go. So there's like themes to each of the months. There are two coaching calls every month. There's one guest expert every month. There's another telegram community, but like
with the content, with you talking about podcasts, I was like, we do that in there every month. So like blogs and podcasts are the two big things that I focus on. And the podcast, it's crazy how fast the SEO works and you only really need to worry about like the titles and the the keyword tags. And
Mary Hodson (20:39.688) Guys, see, making it even simpler here. I freaking hate writing my podcast descriptions. So I'm like, that's a light at the end of the tunnel, but like my title and my d man, music to my ears. Keep going.
Brittany Herzberg (20:53.934) So there's a way that you can make that easier for sure. I'm so excited to get into that with you. And then even with the blogs too, like we didn't even talk about that in the SEO sprint and you've been able to apply stuff. Yes. It's beautiful.
Mary Hodson (21:05.26) Yeah. I don't know. I think it just gives you like maybe this is like silly to say, but it like gives me so much power that I'm like, wow, I am in such control of like I have a nice website, but like it wasn't doing anything for me. And I paid a lot of money for this website to do nothing. So it's like literally just pissed money down the toilet, really. Sorry. Sorry for my Midwestern to come out there, but that's really what it felt like.
Brittany Herzberg (21:28.96) It does. And like you said at the very beginning of this, you assumed that it was doing stuff for you, that it was going to start doing stuff for you. And now you're like, you have Google Search Console set up and you know to submit the links there whenever you do any updates to it. And it's actually able to work for you now. And you understand how it's able to work for you without us really getting all that techie about it at all. So proud of you. I'm just so happy. Okay. Obviously I can look forward to having you in SEO and grow, which so thrill so thrilled about.
Mary Hodson (21:49.336) Literally, yes.
Mary Hodson (21:55.854) I literally love.
Brittany Herzberg (21:58.7) Definitely like let us know 'cause you have a podcast, which you kind of alluded to. Yes. Let us know about the podcast, anything else you have going on, membership. Tell us things.
Mary Hodson (22:06.794) Yes. So I do have a podcast called Shift Happens. Brittany helped me SO find the title a little bit there. it's the podcast for burnt out healthcare workers. So if you are a healthcare worker that's very burnt out, chances are if you work in healthcare, you probably are. I'm sorry, I'm holding your hand when I say that. definitely go over to the podcast. I release episodes every week. I also have a new freebie coming out that I have not talked about a lot yet, but
We'll we'll get to that eventually and I'll talk about it in the podcast. So I feel like it doesn't really make sense to talk about it here because I'm not going to give a link yet. But it'll be really exciting if you're like struggling with is this burnout? Is this trauma? Are you just tired? Like there's a lot of questions that go through your head. so I'll be talking about that in the podcast in two weeks. And yeah. And you find me on Instagram at healthy and healthcare with a very annoying underscore at the end. But that is me.
Brittany Herzberg (23:00.714) Laughing so hard. I've got Brittany underscore Herzberg on my Instagram handle. So like we're we're underscore buddies.
Mary Hodson (23:07.594) See, I think the underscore is annoying, like nobody notices it. Like literally nobody cares. And I'm like, I hate that underscore, but it's fine. It's staying there.
Brittany Herzberg (23:14.424) That's just it is what it is. This is even something that comes up with domain names because people are like, no one can spell my name. They're not going to be. They're gonna be clicking on the link. Like
Mary Hodson (23:22.508) Literally taking it seriously though. It's very true. Mm-hmm.
Brittany Herzberg (23:26.446) we'll end on this one. What would you say to someone who's either not even sure what SEO is and they're like, what podcast did I just click on to listen to? Or if they have been thinking about it and maybe like, I'll get to that eventually. Like what would Mary tell them?
Mary Hodson (23:39.276) Yeah, I feel like I'm gonna sound a little bit like spicy Brittany here, but it's fine. If you own a business and you are not even considering SEO, like you are seriously wasting a lot of time. You put a lot of time, a lot of effort. I'm sure you have very large goals in your business. And I will tell you tenfold, like it makes this 20 times easier. Like as somebody who was afraid of it and like, my gosh, this is gonna be such a headache. Like, I really wish I would have done this.
As soon as I started my business, like you should get your legals in order and then your SEO in order. Like, those are like the steps right there is what you need.
Brittany Herzberg (24:16.67) That's going somewhere in this podcast episode blog post.
Mary Hodson (24:21.45) It's true though. It is so, so true. Like if you are giving so much effort to Instagram or building a beautiful website like I did, like and you are not putting forth SEO effort, like you really are shooting yourself in the foot. And like I say that with love because I want you to have more time in your life rather than less time.
Brittany Herzberg (24:39.892) Exactly. Yeah. And I think it was maybe on the recent mastermind call where the line was that like if you're not doing SEO, you're being irresponsible with your business. Yes. Because you are.
Mary Hodson (24:50.446) You are. Yes. You really, really are. And like I feel like it's just again, like I've gone back to this like 50 times. Like we just put so much effort into social media. And I'm like, that's great. Cause that can be part of it, which like you've helped us learn. But it's like it also is not doing as much lifting as you think it is. And it really is very irresponsible. If like Instagram's your only thing, you're not worried about SEO, like you're not optimizing things. Like
Do you really have these big goals if you're not willing to take the time for SEO? Is kind of how I feel.
Brittany Herzberg (25:21.336) Or if I had a mic, I would drop it, but I can't. Mine's on a stand. But that it's so true. And like you said, there's just like so many different little things, little levers that can pull on to for your podcast, for your blog, for your Instagram profile, for your website. Like they're all there and they're just like, Let me help you.
Mary Hodson (25:40.342) Yeah. And and I guess like this is also very worth me saying, like, guys, I went through the sprint. And when I say, yes, I'm blogging. Yes, I I had a podcast before the sprint. Like I had a website before the sprint. Like, really, I haven't done anything drastic since the sprint. It's just things that I can naturally incorporate into what I'm doing. So I don't want people to think like, that's just another thing to add to my to-do list. Like, no, you get it done at the beginning. And then it really does feel so natural in the end to be like,
Okay, let me just double check this really quick. Take 10 seconds as this SEO friendly. Okay, great. Go with it. Like that's really it.
Brittany Herzberg (26:15.896) That's a lot of it because you're creating content like you said. You're already doing that. It's just how can I tweak it? And you said it really well earlier. I think it was like, is this living up to its maximum potential? Is it doing the most that it could for me and my business? That's all you're looking for. I mean, one of the things I say is that SEO is like extra credit for business owners. Why would you not like I was never the kid that was like, I'm not gonna give myself like 10 extra points on it. Are you kidding me? Yeah. It's right there. Yes. I'm gonna try.
Mary Hodson (26:42.466) Yes. It's right there. It's very simple. Like might as well go for it and see what happens. Exactly. Yeah.
Brittany Herzberg (26:48.354) I just love you. You've dropped so many beautiful little like gems for us. Just thank you. I'm so grateful. I cannot wait to see what happens. If you feel like sharing the link for your new freebie when it is live, let me know because I could always add it in here. Thank you. But like you should still go check out Mary's podcast. I think we're gonna be doing something in the near-ish future, possibly maybe question mark.
Mary Hodson (27:08.982) Yes, question mark, but like exclamation mark really is what we should change that to. We are going to do something in the near future. That's funny. I was like, we probably should have set this up a little better to do a swaparoo on the same day. I'm like, but it's fine. Let me get back from Vegas next month and then we'll set something up. It'll be fine. Yes. Yeah.
Brittany Herzberg (27:25.934) Yes. I'm so excited. Well, keep us posted with any of the positive, happy, fun things. You're so great with that. And I'll be sure to keep people updated. I'm sure you'll be back on the podcast. Honestly, I mean, I feel like this is just gonna be like a thing.
Mary Hodson (27:37.932) Love it. Thank you for having me.
Brittany Herzberg (27:39.712) Of course. Thanks for being here and thank you for listening. I'll make sure that I have the links for all of the things below. Please go say hi to Mary. She's like the super sweetest. Go check out her podcast. Go say hi on Instagram DMs. Click around, find the freebie. I think that's gonna be quite amazing. I don't even know what she's creating. And remember, I'm over here cheering you on on your SEO journey.
