How SEO works: A Nashville Trip Told Through Google Searches

THEN: HEADING TO NASHVILLE

It’s October 2019—the world hasn’t ended yet. I’m in a car, windows rolled down, & coffees securely placed in the cupholder.

My friend, Kelly, is driving us Westward.

We are Nashville-bound! (We don’t know it yet, but we’ve found the cutest AirBnB.)

Ahead of us are 3 nights & 4 days of good local coffee, good people, good food, & great music.

The real reason for the trip is the Social Curator meet up slash conference (hosted by Jasmine Star). It’s just an excuse to meet online friends IRL & take tons of selfies!

NOW: DREAMING OF NASHVILLE

It’s April 2022—my massage client is planning a work-meets-fun trip to Nashville & she wants to know where to go.

So what do I do?

Hop on Google & search for the places I fell in love with.

30 minutes later—I’ve done nothing but type phrases like “coffee shop that starts with “D”” “Jason Aldean’s downtown Nashville” “coffee shop with bowling alley” & “warehouse meeting space” into the search bar.

THIS IS HOW SEO WORKS

If your business is anything like mine—you’ve made such an impression on someone that 4 years have gone by & they just met someone they want to refer to your business.

What do you think they’re going to do?

Go to Google. Type your name in the search bar. If they can’t remember your name, they’re going to type a nearby landmark.

As a last-ditch effort, they’re going to pop over to their email, find a message from you, go back to Google, & find your website that way.

THIS IS WHY SEO IS SO IMPORTANT FOR YOUR BUSINESS

People aren’t always going to remember your name, your business site, or your address—but they’re darn well going to remember how you made them feel.

And if that was a good feeling—they’re going to want to send people your way.

Help them help you, friend.

Optimize your website to help people who remember you—refer new clients to you.
