Monthly SEO Tasks That Fit Every Energy & Capacity Level

“SEO doesn't seem like a sexy marketing strategy, but it's the thing that's gonna carry you & your business when life is hitting you left, right, & center.”

SEO doesn't care if you're grieving, growing a human, or just trying to remember to drink water—it’s still gonna do its thing & work BTS for you 24/7.

I love SEO as a marketing strategy because it’s so sustainable & works with the energy you have available.

In this episode, I'm getting a lil sentimental & sharing the story of how I fell into SEO during one of the hardest seasons of my life, & then I’m walking you through the monthly SEO tasks you can do with whatever capacity level you’re working with.

Low energy day? There's a task for that. Brain fully firing? There's a task for that, too.

Topics covered in this podcast episode:

  • How I met SEO & leaned into it during one of the hardest seasons of my life

  • How SEO works to support you & your business when life gets heavy

  • What I mean when I say "SEO works with your capacity" each month

  • Monthly SEO tasks that range from low-lift to “requires more thought”

  • How even the tiny tweaks add up over time to help grow your business

  • How my optimized Instagram profile kept supporting me during my 18-month break

  • Why your website SEO must always be done first

SEO requires a bit more time & focus at the very beginning, but once everything is set up properly the “sustainable” part really gets to shine.

If you want me to take a look at your website to see what I’d recommend as the first step, DM me ‘LOOM’ on Instagram. (Be to give me your website link as well.) And I’ll get back to you with a personalized video!

The unedited podcast transcript for this episode of The Basic B podcast follows

Brittany Herzberg (00:04.046)

Hello and welcome to the Basic B Podcast. I am your host and favorite SEO coach, Brittany Herzberg. And before I get launched into this episode, I just want to take a minute and say thank you and let you know how grateful I am because I've heard from several of you recently and it's been so nice, whether it's an email or a DM or something, saying that you're listening to the show, that it's been really helpful for you, and even like sharing your wins along the way. I love, love, love.

I cannot express how much I love hearing your wins and just aha moments. So please know that. Thank you for all of your referrals, for sharing the show, for leaving a review. I just I'm really grateful. So I wanted to share that. And as we get away from this sentimental moment. Actually, no, you know what? Let's stick with that. Because I get sentimental about SEO sometimes. If I go all the way back and think about how I got started with it, I was in a brand new state.

My boyfriend Daniel and I had packed up and moved from North Carolina to Vermont. We were gonna stay there for four months. We did stay there for four months. We probably shouldn't have stayed there for four months, but that's a whole other conversation. We were there. We weren't sure how we were gonna make rent. And I had moved my massage practice. I was trying to start a new one. He was working with clients. I was like at my wit's end. I do remember being in the bedroom and bawling my eyes out because I just didn't know I didn't know how we were gonna do it. And within that week, I heard

from well, checked my email. Let's stick with what actually happened. I checked my email and I had two bookings from people that had found me on Google. And I didn't really know what I had done. All I had done when I think back on it was that I I changed my address. You know, it didn't say Apex Rotley, North Carolina anymore. It said, I don't even remember the town. I think I must have blocked it out, but like, you know, whatever, Vermont. And that was what actually helped me show up.

for these clients when they were looking for me. Once I realized that that was the thing I did, I was like, wait, is there more that I can do? And I totally fell down the rabbit hole that is SEO. And by way of experimenting and working with clients and working on my own stuff and even working on Daniel's stuff, I've been able to find the quickest route that is something I'm really skilled at is like, okay, I've taken the messy road. Don't do that. Here's how you can get to point B like much faster. So

Brittany Herzberg (02:31.892) Now I know, you know, start with your website, go into like your social media profiles, any kind of guesting assets, content, and then start tracking your metrics. I know that those are the three milestones, whatever you want call them. And it's been just so good to be able to share that with people. But back at the beginning, like I fell into it. And then I was really grateful that I had fallen into it because my dog ended up having a really terrible life threatening accident.

And I wanted to be home with him. I didn't want to be doing massage therapy. So I paused that, went into copywriting and used SEO to get found for that too. And was weaving in SEO with my client projects. And then, you know, my mom was diagnosed with cancer and I was home with her and wanted to go to appointments with her and just like be there and just kind of hang out with the people in the furballs that meant the most to me. So it was an interesting moment going through that. And then

fast forward. My dog passes away. I mean like years later. And then we had a really, really terrible, really terrible situation in an Airbnb that we were in. And we needed to leave. And I didn't have time to market my business. I didn't have time to record podcast episodes or do blog posts. I was just trying to survive. And there have been a lot of those moments if I think back on it. And it's not just me. It's clients too.

So I'm sharing all this because I want you to hear that and to know that no, SEO doesn't seem like a sexy marketing strategy, but it's the thing that's gonna carry you when life is hitting you left, right, and center, and you feel like there's not solid ground and you're just caught up in your emotions and just feeding yourself feels like a chore. This marketing strategy.

Can and will be there for you because you've taken the time to set it up and nurture it and because you've worked the system, like I just shared. So I want you to know that. It doesn't matter if it's some kind of like traumatic family thing that happens, or you're just grieving, or maybe on the flip side, or planning a wedding, or you're having a baby, or you're just like sick for three months. It doesn't matter what the thing is. SEO can be there for you and it can be doing the marketing for you.

Brittany Herzberg (04:53.906) And there are tasks that you can do on a monthly basis, assuming you've already got your website SEO set up. There are things you can do on a monthly basis to help continue to like build the bat signal and be strategic and be smart and be thoughtful that take varying levels of effort, energy, brain power. And that is what makes SEO such a sustainable marketing strategy. That is what I mean when I'm like SEO works with your capacity. Your capacity is

I'm having a great day. Life is going well. My brain is on. I'm here. I'm really thoughtful. The brain cells are firing. You feel like you can do some heavy copywriting or be really thoughtful, be really strategic. And then you have days where it's like, again, I fed myself. I drank water. Like that's great. So you have tasks that run the full range.

So I want to share some of these tasks with you. I was actually recording this for something else and I was like, I want to share this with my podcast people. So that is why we are here on this topic. I'm gonna make sure that this image gets into the blog post. So if you're listening to this on like Spotify or Apple, just know that there's a link that you can click that will take you over to the blog on my website, or you can just go to BrittanyHerzberg.com and go to the blog page and you'll be able to see this. So some of the task options include outlining a blog post.

doing SEO for some podcast episodes. And that could just be like the title and the keywords. Optimizing social media profiles. There's different parts of things that you can do. And that's the thing with SEO is like there's so many opportunities. And the more you know, the more you're able to do. And that was my that was my journey with it. So, you know, optimizing social media profiles, you can actually put certain words

into your Instagram profile name that will help you get found for the thing that you do by the people that you want to do it for. And your profile, no matter if you're posting or not, can actually work for you. Same thing with LinkedIn, same thing with Thread, same thing I'm sure with TikTok and every other profile that's out there. So that's a thing. You can do image optimization. You could just pick one page on your website or one blog post and say, okay, I'm gonna go in and optimize the images just for this page. That's enough. You could do something bigger, like

Brittany Herzberg (07:09.772) building out a links page or building out a media page. These are things that you'll have an a unique SEO strategy for. They require a little bit of copywriting. They require a little bit of like sourcing your headshots or thinking of topics you want to talk about or gathering links for your different projects. Those are the kinds of things that you want to have on those pages. So that's a little bit bigger of a project. So all of these things can range, like I said, from low lift to something that's like much more intense and just requires more of you.

And even if you're doing the quote unquote like lower lift tinier things, it doesn't matter. You're still working on your SEO. All of this stuff adds up. So I want you to remember that because the point of me sharing this list is not that I'm like, you have to do all of these things. That is not the point. The point is to learn what's available to you and to take consistent action that is in line with what your capacity is in that moment, in that month, every single month. Again.

whether that's like the bigger stuff or the smaller stuff. Maybe you have a month where you're able to do some of each of them. And that's totally cool. But I just want you to know what's available to you because when you start to see all of these opportunities, then you're like, it's encouraging, first of all. And then you get to see how the stuff pays off. You get to see the people that are coming to your profile and DMing you. I took an 18 month break from Instagram somewhere in all that madness with all the stuff happening in my life.

I just couldn't. I didn't want to. I didn't want to have a camera in my face. I just I didn't. So I told myself I was like, I'm gonna show up in stories as much as I want to, because I was really loving stories. It was initiating a lot of conversations and I love getting to know people. Sometimes to the point where I like need to check myself out of the DMs for a day, but I really enjoyed that part of it. So I was like, This is making me happy. I'm just gonna do this. It was great. I was doing like blogs and podcasts and stuff like that at the time. And people were then

still going over to connect with me on Instagram, even though I wasn't actively posting, but they were able to say hi to me. They were able to like continue the conversation, which was really beautiful. So that happened. I've had a number of people find my Instagram profile, my LinkedIn profile, and then invite me on their podcast because they saw what I did and because my profile was optimized, I showed up for them when they were doing the searches, wherever they were doing the searches. So do not sleep on these things. And also you need to remember

Brittany Herzberg (09:33.006) That your very first step is always, always going to be to optimize your core website pages, your homepage, your about page, your services page or pages, podcast page, blog page, contact page, even your freebies. Like we leave no page unturned. I don't want you to miss any opportunities. And I want you to understand that, like, start with seven to ten pages. That's what we do in the sprint. Start with those seven to ten pages, get those done, and then on a monthly basis, you can always go back and check in on previous.

blog posts, previous podcast episodes that you turned into blogs, previous freebies, like anything. Once you get your core website pages locked in, then you can go off and get into all of these tasks that I mentioned. If you do not have your website SEO set up yet, you have two options before 2026 is over. And yes, I am already starting to talk this way because Q3 and Q4 somehow show up and get the heck out of here as fast as possible. They like show up and they're in and out. And if you want next year to look very different,

more supportive than this year has looked for you, you're gonna need to have SEO on your site and on your side. How clever was that? So you got the two-week SEO sprint in October. You can sign up for that right now. The link is going to be below. When you sign up early, you get a 30-minute kickoff call with me. It's a bonus call. And it's really just a moment where we get to talk about what's in there. I get to point you in the right direction of things. We get to really personalize this experience for you. Or you can opt for the faster

five-day SEO sprint in December. Also, if you sign up early for that, you also get a 30-minute kickoff call. Trust me when I say that the five days can be enough and has been enough and is enough to get your SEO done. The very first version of the SEO sprint that I ran was five days long. I had someone in there who was in launch mode. And then I had a mom with two toddlers who was home full time with her. So do not even give me that, but I'm too busy. There is no such thing as a perfect time to do SEO.

And I hate to be the one to tell you that, but here we are. Now, if you'd rather hand off the SEO stuff, I have one done for you spot open for the rest of 2026 as I am recording this. It might even be gone. The next available spot after that is not until February 2027. I know there's a big gap. It is what it is. If you're interested in this, find me, let me know. We'll figure out a game plan. I spend a solid month just locked in on your SEO, your website, your content, and social media profiles.

Brittany Herzberg (11:59.712) That is why there's such a big gap. And I also have a couple other things happening. Look at me. I'm learning to prioritize things in my own business. So link is below for that as well. And if you have any questions about whether it's a sprint or the dumb for you SEO, find me, ask. I'm always on Instagram, like I was mentioning earlier, Brittany underscore Herzberg. You can also leave a comment under the blog post. Please do go do that because you're gonna be able to see even other tasks that I didn't mention. You'll be able to see the entire list. So go check out that blog post and then feel free to leave a comment below for that.

Yeah, I'm really glad that you tuned in. I'm really glad that I got to share this with you. It's been on my heart. It's been on my mind. And there's been a lot of stuff that's come up recently with people in the sprint, with done for you clients, with friends that I'm just like, I need to talk about this more. And I want you to see what I mean when I say SEO works with your capacity. And it is a sustainable marketing strategy. This is what I'm talking about. You can be sick, you can be down in the dumps, you can just be having whatever. But like whether it's like a happy or a sad thing, this is a marketing strategy.

That is there for you. It's like a hug for you and your business. It's a nice little like snuggy for you and your business. Okay, I'm gonna go off on tangents with the analogies. And we just don't need that. So check this stuff out. Let me know if you have questions. And remember, I'm over here cheering you on on your SEO journey.
